Unboxing My March Sephora Play Box

I defiantly have a makeup addiction. I’m always trying out new products and makeup subscription services. Today I’m going to share my Sephora Play box with y’all!

Each box contains a small bag great to reuse for travel, hello spring break trips!

If you don’t know what the Play box is, it’s a $10 beauty subscription service that includes five makeup, skin or haircare samples, and one fragrance sample each month. Every product inside the box can be bought at your nearest Sephora store. Plus you receive a voucher to redeem 50 extra bonus points to your Sephora account!

This month’s theme was “Glow Your Own Way” so right off the bat I assumed that it would be all illuminating products. (And right I was). I would typically be disappointed as I have oily skin, but I am on a new medication called Accutane which basically turns my skin into a crusty mess. Great visual right? But it’s supposed to “cure” my acne so it’ll be worth it.

Anyways back to the Sephora box, the first thing out was the Urban Decay Primer Potion. This product keeps your eyeshadow in place all day long. I’ve received samples of this inside my Naked palettes before, so I already knew how great the product was. And primer isn’t the most fun to spend money on, so I was pretty happy.

Next up was the Glamglow Glamstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer. Okay, I’m not much for an illuminating moisturizer. I prefer a matte finish for my foundation. And I’ve received many illuminating moisturizers in this box before. I knew I wouldn’t get much use out of this.

The third item was the Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up Cream Highlighter. This was my favorite item in the box, the tiny sample had the most adorable packing which is a replica of the full size. It swatches a golden color, not to sparkly, and subtle enough for everyday if desired.

Hoping that this box would surprise me in the end, I grabbed the last three products. But I was disappointed.

Let’s just run through these quick. I received the Josie Maran Surreal Skin Argon Finishing Balm. Who would think to put a balm on top after putting in all the work to apply their powder products? That sounds like a greasy mess to me.

Verb Ghost Oil, basically a oil that tames frizzy hair. I appreciate a hair oil, but it’s not the most exciting product to receive. I looked this product up online and surprisingly the full size is only $14, it’s probably the least inexpensive item inside Sephora.

Finally, the fragrance of the month was Atelier Cologne Clementine California. It was a typical fresh floral perfume with notes of clementine, mandarin and juniper berries.

It’s obvious this box was a disappointment to me. I received no makeup products other than the highlighter. With all the makeup Sephora has in their warehouse, would it have killed them to throw in a lipstick or a cream blush? Skin care isn’t the reason I signed up for this box.

After the past few months of disappointments, I’m considering cancelling my subscription. Let me know what you all received or any other makeup subscription services that are worth the money. And I promise my next post won’t be so negative.
